Fotos para la historia.-

An F4U Corsair of Marine Fighting Squadron (VMF) 214 "The Black Sheep" lands at Espiritu Santo on September 11, 1943 . The white lines forward of the canopy was due to a leaky fuel tank which sat between the pilot and the engine. It was literally tape and it kept the windscreen clean. Apparently in earlier models, oil from the engine and fuel from the tank in front of the cockpit were getting on the wind screen. Having gas vapors from a leaky tank would have been a worry for me even if the tape kept it off the wind screen.
